I gave a five minute lightning talk at Steph Gray’s MailCamp event yesterday about blog bash. Blog bash is something we’ve done to write more blog content here at Claremont – we want to see if it can work for you.
MailCamp’s great – it’s all about quick, actionable feedback that you can use right away. No lengthy anecdotes. No boring pitches.
How do you get more content?
We wanted more content for our blog and email newsletter. Our analytics were going downhill. Subscribers seemed less interested every week. We needed to do something.
So we created Blog Bash. We wanted to find a solution that we could use to get us blogging more, and that our clients in public sector, voluntary and non-profit land could use too.
Make time. Make it fun. Learn more.
We needed to carve out time in people’s day. Then we needed to make it fun. And then we needed to make it so we were learning as we went.
We knew if we could do this, we stood a chance. We’d create resilience. We’d build community. We’d get content going.
So, blog bash was born. One hour in people’s day, where we sit in a room and write together. One post each. Fueled by coffee and doughnuts. It turns a solo effort into a team effort – and it works.
But after a while, that’d seem like a chore. The novelty would wear off. So we made it a competition. We track click rates for our fortnightly Claremail on MailChimp – the person with the most clicks gets bragging rights.
Most importantly – we learn. We’re obsessive about stats. What can we do better? What do our audience respond to? You’ve got this data – use it.

But it does more than that. It turns email marketing into a conversation point. It brings self belief. It brings confidence. And it brings more content.
Suddenly, we were putting out 5/6 pieces a week. Before, we’d be lucky to do that in a month. Open rates increased. We got better social media feedback.
